Krafft said he was influenced to visit the Ozark Mountains by reading Harold Bell Wright’s The Shepherd of the Hills.
He said Wright “had described the very neighborhood which a landscape artist only expects to find in heaven.”
Krafft maintained studios in Hollister and Arcadia, Missouri and traveled there frequently from Chicago between 1913 and 1916.
