J. Jeffrey Grant (1883-1960)

 

Originally from Scotland, he came to the Canada in 1904 and then to Chicago in 1907. Grant spent a large part of his career as an engraver and freelance artist. He belonged to multiple organizations including:

 

  • Artists Guild of Author’s League of America (Guild of Free-Lance Artists, Chicago, founder)

  • Artists’ Guild, Chicago

  • Arts Club of Chicago

  • Association of Chicago Painters & Sculptors (1933-1934 board of directors)

  • Chicago Galleries Association

  • Chicago Society of Artists

  • Mason, Columbian Lodge, York Chapter

  • North Shore Art Association

  • Northwest Art League

 

Most notably he served as President of the Palette & Chisel Club between 1938-1939 and again 1945-1946 and was a long-time board member.
